Your Responsibilities
As a Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing control system specifications, configuring instrumentation, preparing for deployment, executing implementation, conducting testing, documenting processes, and providing training.
A Day in the Life at Prime Controls
- Collaborate with project managers and estimators to evaluate potential projects and create proposals.
- Interpret diagrams and documentation while engaging with clients to grasp their objectives and preferences.
- Develop the overarching architecture and communication strategy among control system components.
- Work closely with clients and stakeholders to define and document control system functionalities.
- Create Bills of Materials (BOMs), Input/Output lists, and specifications for control panels.
- Act as the technical lead for smaller projects, including building PLC and HMI templates.
- Program PLCs using Ladder Logic, Function Block, and other programming languages.
- Design and develop the Human Machine Interface (HMI).
- Formulate hardware and software testing plans and write simulation logic for testing PLC and HMI systems.
- Develop training plans and materials for operations and maintenance personnel.
- Coordinate with installation team management to ensure technicians adhere to documented processes.
- Test installed systems to verify functionality and ensure programs operate as intended.
- Troubleshoot issues arising during startup due to incorrect drawings, changes in client requirements, or technical discrepancies. Diagnose and resolve software and hardware interface challenges.
- Provide training to clients on the operation of client-specific system integration software.
- Engage with manufacturers and vendors of software and application products, particularly for problem diagnosis and resolution.
- Collaborate with team members to address design challenges as needed.
- Respond to service calls to troubleshoot, diagnose, and rectify programming and system failures.
- Mentor and guide less experienced team members.
Your Qualifications
Essential Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in Industrial Controls within the architectural, engineering, or construction (AEC) sector or a related field.
- Professional Engineer License in the State of Texas.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industrial controls experience.
- At least 4 years of experience in PLC programming.
- Proficiency with Allen Bradley equipment and systems.
- Expertise in PLC Programming, including Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text.
- Familiarity with networking protocols (Ethernet/IP).
- Experience and knowledge of Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
- 6 years of experience in the architectural, engineering, or construction (AEC) industry or a similar field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD – Autodesk software.
