Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Early Childhood Educator to join our team at the First Presbyterian Church of Nashville. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and planning of a specific preschool classroom, interacting directly with children, parents, and other staff members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a planned program of activities for a class from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
  • Curriculum Development: Create classroom plans using Emergent Curriculum/Regio Emelia Philosophy/Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) and submit them to the Assistant Director at least monthly.
  • Parent Communication: Plan meaningful parent/teacher conferences using the Creative Curriculum Assessment Forms.
  • Documentation: Document children's experiences and development using a variety of methods, including Curriculum Goals and Objectives.
  • Classroom Environment: Maintain a clean classroom utilizing guidelines on the NAEYC Cleaning and Sanitation Chart.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Follow NAEYC criteria and TN Department of Human Services (DHS) Rules and Regulations.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend staff meetings and special events, and share insights and ideas during planning sessions.
Interactions with Children
  • Child Interaction: Interact with children at their level, greeting them as they enter the room and modeling appropriate interactions.
  • Supervision: Consistently supervise children in the classroom and on the playground.
Professional Development
  • Education and Training: Complete Early Childhood education training annually as required by TN DHS, and follow a professional development plan that meets the NAEYC criteria for education.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma required, with education courses in progress or a CDA or higher degree related to Early Childhood Education desired.
  • Experience: Past work or volunteer time interacting with young children.
  • Knowledge: TN DHS Childcare Rules and Regulations, TN Early Childhood Education Early Learning Developmental Standards (TN-ELDS), NAEYC Criteria, Developmentally Appropriate Practice, and Emergent Curriculum.
  • Skills/Abilities: Ability to work well in a team-teaching environment, communicate effectively with teaching staff, parents, and administration, and possess basic computer and iPad/camera skills.
