Immunohematology Laboratory Scientist III

We are seeking a highly skilled Immunohematology Laboratory Scientist III to contribute to our Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) team at Bloodworks Northwest.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex antibody problem workups and red cell reference testing.
  • Fill blood orders in a timely manner.
  • Conduct antibody ID using various methods.
  • Evaluate warm autoantibodies using matched cells, adsorption, and elution techniques.
  • Utilize enhancing reagents and enzymes to resolve complex antibody issues.
  • Conduct extended transfusion reaction evaluations.
  • Perform neonatal evaluations and antibody titers.
  • Provide technical expertise and consultation to internal and external laboratory professionals and physicians.
  • Maintain and track inventory levels of antigen typed units and supplies.
  • Participate in initiatives to meet American Rare Donor Program requirements for AABB IRL accreditation.
  • Prepare and QC reagents and serum for daily operations.
  • Review workup documentation, final reports, and coordinate billing for testing performed.
  • Encourage cooperation among staff and maintain a professional working environment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and transportation issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of testing, research, and validation.
  • Perform equipment Quality Control (QC) and maintenance.
  • Develop clear, concise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with laboratory staff.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) functions and report incidents involving unusual circumstances or failure to follow SOPs.
  • Complete CAP/AABB Survey Assignments within the allotted time frame.
  • Coordinate direct observations for competency assessments.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends within the field of red cell reference.
  • Participate in continuing education activities with a minimum of 6 contact hours per year.
  • Comply with all applicable SOPs.
