Licensed Speech Language Pathologist

Position Overview: The Speech Therapist is responsible for evaluating, setting goals, and delivering treatment for disorders related to speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, and swallowing. This role includes supervising the activities of speech therapy assistants and students, as well as providing education to staff, patients, and families. The Speech Therapist also plays a vital role in updating patient care plans and performing various related tasks as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts comprehensive assessments and develops treatment plans for individuals with speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders. Implements therapeutic interventions, assesses their effectiveness, and adjusts treatment strategies as required. Provides counseling and education to patients, families, and caregivers.
- Maintains, cleans, calibrates, and adjusts therapeutic equipment according to established guidelines to ensure safety and functionality. Reports and removes any non-functional or unsafe equipment in a timely manner.
- Reviews clinical data to assess the suitability of speech therapy interventions, collaborates in the formulation of care plans, and delivers care in accordance with clinical protocols. Ensures that patient documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with billing requirements. Adheres to professional standards and regulatory guidelines, including infection control and HIPAA regulations.
- Demonstrates empathy towards patients and their support systems, showcasing compassion and understanding. Engages in meaningful interactions with patients, families, healthcare providers, and colleagues, taking responsibility for the quality of care provided.
Qualifications:
Education: None required.
Experience: Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English. Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays is essential. Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting as a Speech Pathologist is preferred. Bilingual abilities are advantageous for effective communication with diverse patient populations.
Licensure: A current Speech Pathologist license in the State of California is mandatory. Basic Life Support certification from AHA is required. Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card is necessary for Los Angeles City Employees.
