Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Family Support Assistant to join our team at Capital Area Community Services, Inc. Head Start. This part-time position is responsible for providing family support services to individuals accessing services through our agency, promoting individual and family independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides family support services to individuals seeking assistance through Capital Area Community Services (CACS), including needs assessment, direct and referral services, advocacy, and follow-up.
  • Serves as a receptionist for the Service Center, providing clients and visitors with community resource information and explanations of how to access services.
  • Determines eligibility and assists clients with complexities related to emergency shelter and utility assistance applications.
  • Assists people in the selection of educational enrichment activities to comply with program requirements.
  • Maintains up-to-date client files and links program participants and guests with service providers, employers, landlords, and other resources to meet their needs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in the delivery of direct and information/referral services to the low-income community.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of others with the ability to encourage and guide others in their quest for independence.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work with a diverse population in an effective manner.
  • Advanced computer skills required.
