Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Designer to join our team at Talbots. As a Technical Designer, you will play a critical role in facilitating the transition of apparel styles from design concept to production-ready prototypes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Protect Brand Integrity: Ensure fit continuity, uphold construction standards, and maintain sizing and styling consistency across all products.
  • Collaborate with Business Partners: Work closely with design, product development, merchandising, and sourcing teams to gain clear direction and consensus on fit intent.
  • Execute Sample Process: Generate computerized specification packages and manage the measuring and preparing of samples from development through production approval.
  • Conduct Fit Evaluation Sessions: Analyze balance and proportion of fit on live models, confirm compliance with specifications, and document results.
  • Partner with Manager: Work closely with manager to continually improve skills, provide clear communication, and review block patterns.
  • Document Fit Results: Deliver clear communication through comments, specs, diagrams, and photos.
  • Follow Up on Comments: Partner with manager to address comments on fit, construction, and design integrity.
  • Meet Seasonal Deadlines: Ensure timely completion of styles and partner with manager to assess next steps when issues arise.
  • Participate in Departmental Meetings: Attend departmental and cross-functional meetings as required.
  • Flexible and Adaptable: Be flexible to the needs of the total department and handle other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
  • Track and Manage Workflow: Manage workflow and workload for own product.
  • Foster Open Communication: Foster open communication and team environment with all business partners.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in a related field of study or equivalent functional experience.
  • Technical Design Experience: 6-8 years' experience in Technical Design and/or Patternmaking.
  • Knit and Bottoms Experience: Must have experience working in knits and bottoms.
  • Grading and Construction Knowledge: Knowledge of grading, construction standards, and manufacturing methods.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-Oriented: Detail-oriented with strong organizational capabilities.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to problem solve.
  • Collaborative Relationships: Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and divisions.
  • Flexible and Adaptable: Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer Knowledge: Strong computer knowledge (PLM, Outlook, Microsoft, Adobe Applications), or other Tech Pack systems.
