Job Overview

Vyve Broadband is a leading provider of high-speed Internet services, serving largely non-urban communities across 16 states. As a technology leader in the cable and broadband sectors, we offer a range of services including fiber connectivity, cable television, and voice services.

The role of Commercial Fiber Tech involves performing field maintenance operations to ensure that our plant is maintained to the highest level of quality and service. This includes preventative maintenance, repair of fiber network forward & return balancing, and use of test equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fusion or mechanical splicing of SM or MM fiber optic cables, including terminating various types of fiber optic connectors (ST, SC, LC)
  • Collaboration with headend engineers and OSP Project managers on fusion splicing tasks as directed
  • Properly reading and interpreting fiber documentation, identifying fibers in existing enclosures, and installing fiber enclosures and term panels
  • Correct installation of cwdm/dwdm filters into fiber paths, differentiating between one-fiber and two-fiber solutions
  • Utilizing Fiber Optic Scope and/or Fiber OTDR for footage readings, high loss/high reflective events recognition, and wavelength selection
  • Operating an optical power meter for proper wavelength selection, db/dbm settings, and light levels
  • Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables
  • Providing detailed reports of field splicing activity, including splice enclosure, splicing, and path documentation
Requirements
  • Two+ years of experience with fiber optics
  • Ability to test and record findings of OTDR highly necessary
  • Capacity to read an optical power meter to determine optical light
  • Ability to properly read fiber documentation and interpret fiber descriptors
