The Tennessee Board of Regents is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Librarian I to join our team at the Williamson Campus. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing professional library services and support for student success.
Key Responsibilities- Provide student-centric library services, including instruction and assistance in obtaining resources that support student studies.
- Maintain a library environment that is open, engaging, and student-focused.
- Assist other offices in supporting student success.
- Catalog and manage library materials and bibliographic resources for student access.
- Contribute to a college culture of service for student success.
- Lead the provision of instructional services at the Williamson County campus and other teaching locations in Williamson County.
- Provide reference and information services to students, faculty, administration, and community users.
- Instruct individual library users in the public service area.
- Prepare research guides and other teaching materials in various formats.
- Evaluate print materials, electronic databases, and internet resources for inclusion in the library's collection.
- Assist with public service activities, including reference, instruction, and computer assistance.
- Participate in library policy and procedure development.
- Cooperate with faculty in selecting materials and planning for their effective use.
- Encourage and promote the use of the library and its materials and services.
- Learns new technologies and provides training to others in their use.
- Develop bibliographies and tutorials in print and online formats.
- Categorize and classify library materials, including books, CDs, films, newspapers, and other documents.
- Follow library standards and guidelines when classifying documents.
- Consider rules of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, Library of Congress subject heading policies, Dewey Decimal Classification, Arabic subject headings, MARC21, and catalog materials in categories of advanced specialized backgrounds.
- Ensure all material can be retrieved conveniently using standardized methods.
- Perform original and copy cataloging and adapt online records according to guidelines in all subject areas and languages.
- Adjust rules when new types of material surface and consult with colleagues on improving cataloging processes.
- Consistently seek to review, evaluate, and improve library processes for student access and success.
- Keep professionally current, including new knowledge and understandings of new technologies and innovations.
- Attend conferences and continuing education classes.
- Provide student support services, including providing student IDs, assisting with orientations, and participating in college committees.
- Serve on college committees.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the Library.
The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree accredited by the American Library Association and relevant experience in reference and instructional services, cataloging, and library management.
