Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cook to join our culinary team at Ameristar Casino Resort Spa St. Charles. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking food items to the highest standards of quality and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook food items according to standard recipes and menu specifications.
  • Ensure consistency of product and presentation to guests.
  • Conduct yourself in a manner that reflects a positive and professional image.
  • Communicate clearly with other cooks and sous chefs.
  • Train lower-level cooks on proper equipment usage.
  • Read recipes and gather necessary items for recipe execution.
  • Cook, prepare, dish-up, and assemble all food for the outlet.
  • Adhere to control procedures for food cost and quality.
  • Perform assigned side work, including replenishing and restocking workstations.
  • Check station before, during, and after shift for proper setup and cleanliness.
  • Organize and prioritize work, meeting deadlines.
  • Work the line in different locations, including sauté, broiler, appetizer, pantry, pasta, grill, etc.
  • Prepare hot and cold sauces.
  • Perform duties at a higher level of accuracy and speed than an assistant cook.
  • Work with small, delicate, and sensitive equipment, requiring fine finger dexterity.
  • Operate kitchen equipment, including slicer, steamer, deep fryer, ovens, broiler, grill, mixer, braise, kettle, and flat top.
  • Grasp, bend, lift, and/or carry, or otherwise move or push goods weighing a maximum of 150 lbs.
  • Perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, standing, and walking significant distances.

Requirements

  • One (1) year minimum experience in food preparation and food knowledge.
  • Ability to perform all cooking duties.
  • Knowledge of how to prepare sauces.
  • Reading and math skills for recipes and measurements.
  • Possess knowledge of two stations with some familiarization of two others.
  • Basic knife skills.
  • Knowledge of the MSDS program.
  • Ability to complete any classes or certifications required by the state of Missouri or Ameristar Casinos, Inc.
  • No schooling is required, but culinary education is encouraged.
  • Must be at least 18.
