The Licensed Sports Coach is a pivotal figure who demonstrates a strong dedication to the success of the program. This role carries the responsibility of ensuring the safety and welfare of all participants, both members and non-members, engaged in the activities. The instructor is expected to be approachable and committed to delivering an enjoyable experience for all participants. The Licensed Sports Coach will conduct engaging and safe classes that foster self-discipline, fitness, and confidence. Furthermore, the instructor will integrate the core values of honesty, respect, caring, faith, and responsibility into daily operations at the YMCA.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct safe and stimulating classes.Design class plans tailored to the skill levels of participants, incorporating new techniques and fundamental movements relevant to the sport.Exhibit techniques and assist participants in refining their skills.Encourage participants to progress through various levels or showcases to enhance their confidence.Follow the established class format as detailed in the class description.Foster leadership qualities in participants through recognition programs, including assistant instructor roles and student of the month awards.Organize promotional assessments or showcases for participants.Maintain accurate records of participants' progress to fulfill general promotion criteria, if applicable.Manage the ordering and distribution of uniforms and supplies to participants.Participate in staff meetings as required.Complete incident reports for any accidents that occur.Promote the sports program through annual public demonstrations.Adhere to YMCA COVID-19 sanitation standards, ensuring cleanliness in all areas.Comply with all YMCA policies and procedures.Perform additional duties as assigned. YMCA COMPETENCIES (Leader): Effective Communication & InfluenceSelf-Development & MentorshipExpertise in Functionality REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years old.Ability to interact with diverse personalities and varying participant learning levels.Must hold a certification from a recognized national organization or possess two years of sport-related education beyond high school.A minimum of two years of instructional experience is required, along with a solid understanding of sports theory, training principles, techniques, and practices.Maintain all necessary sport certifications as applicable (active).CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to effectively perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to walk, run, stand, climb, kneel, sit on the floor and rise, stoop, and jump.Continuous operations requiring attention to detail and the ability to multitask.Capability to lift and pull up to 50 pounds.Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.Physically capable of completing required certifications.Perform the responsibilities of direct reports.
