Job SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated and mission-driven individual to fill the role of College and Career Readiness Coach at Epic High School-North. As a key member of our team, you will empower students to explore and plan for their post-secondary education and career pathways.
Job Responsibilities- Conduct personalized coaching sessions with students to assess their interests, strengths, and goals related to college and career readiness.
- Assist students in identifying potential career paths, exploring academic majors, and setting achievable goals for their future.
- Provide ongoing support and guidance to help students overcome obstacles and develop essential skills for success in college and career settings.
- Facilitate workshops, seminars, and career fairs to expose students to a wide range of post-secondary education and career opportunities.
- Coordinate guest speakers and industry professionals to share insights and experiences related to different career fields and educational pathways.
- Guide students through the college application process, including researching colleges, preparing application materials, and meeting deadlines.
- Assist students in writing personal statements, essays, and resumes that effectively highlight their strengths and aspirations.
- Provide resources and support for completing financial aid forms, such as the FAFSA, and exploring scholarship opportunities to make higher education more accessible.
- Offer workshops and training sessions on essential skills for college and career success, such as resume writing, interviewing techniques, and professional etiquette.
- Foster partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and alumni networks to create mentorship and internship opportunities for students.
- Passion for New York Edge's mission and youth development.
- Previous experience working with high school students in mentoring, counseling, or educational settings.
- Knowledge of college admissions processes, career exploration tools, and workforce development initiatives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program staff and school partners.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students to set and achieve ambitious goals.
- Cultural competency and the ability to support students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
This role may require walking up and down stairs and lifting materials as needed. Work is performed mostly in a New York City Public School, but may involve interacting with the community at-large during trips and events.
Qualifications- Minimum of Associate's degree preferred, with a focus in Education, Psychology, or Social Work.
- Prior work experience in urban education, including experience presenting workshops to students and teachers.
- Prior experience working with high schools in the college admission, financial aid, and scholarship process.
- Spanish fluency a plus.
