Position Overview

Peraton is in search of a Systems Administrator for Flight Operations to provide essential support for our Deep Space Network (DSN) program in collaboration with JPL and NASA.

The Deep Space Network serves as NASA's global network of large radio antennas, facilitating communication with interplanetary spacecraft and certain Earth-orbiting missions. This network is crucial for transmitting commands to spacecraft and receiving groundbreaking images and scientific data, enhancing our comprehension of the universe and our solar system.

Working closely with JPL Design Engineers and local site technicians, the Systems Administrator will deliver Configuration Managed administrative and maintenance assistance at GDSCC. When necessary, remote support will be provided for MDSCC and CDSCC to maintain uninterrupted operations of the Global DSN. The role encompasses supporting hardware and software installations, as well as upgrades across various IT and OT systems to meet the operational needs of the DSN.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer and support IT and OT systems on the GDSCC Flight & Facilities networks in accordance with established Configuration Management protocols.
  • Offer technical assistance to site engineers and technicians for hardware and software deployments on the Flight & Facilities networks.
  • Provide remote troubleshooting support for hardware and software challenges impacting MDSCC and CDSCC.
  • Assist with global downtimes for testing and implementing hardware and software upgrades for operational systems.
  • Support COOP activities for JPL and GDSCC through Systems Administration.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of Flight & Facilities systems to ensure operational integrity and compliance with NASA/JPL standards.
  • Prepare documentation and reports as requested by management.
  • Collaborate effectively with all levels of DSN personnel to ensure the operational viability of the DSN.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with a BS/BA; 0 years with an MS/MA; or 6 years without a degree.
  • Experience in a Space Flight Operations Center or Government Data Center.
  • Background in a collaborative software development environment.
  • Eligibility to obtain a trusted background check and pass a National Criminal Information Check (NCIC); must be a US Citizen with proof of citizenship.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Linux/Solaris Servers and Workstations.
  • Experience with PC/Windows Servers and Workstations.
  • Familiarity with Network Appliance Filer Servers, Network Switches, and Routers.
  • Expertise in Nutanix and Oracle System Administration.
  • Knowledge of LDOM and Zones system administration.
  • Solid understanding of Linux and Windows system administration.
  • Basic knowledge of Apache/Tomcat Web Server, Java, XML, and HTML.
  • Experience with LDAP and FTP Server system administration.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Database.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of preparing reports and delivering presentations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of operating systems, inter-process communication, device drivers, and file system concepts.
  • Knowledge of networking and distributed computing environments, including routing principles and client/server programming.
  • Ability to program in administrative languages (e.g., Perl, Shell Scripts) and write basic C or C++ programs is advantageous.
