Key Responsibilities:
  • Actively participates in surgical procedures as a vital member of the surgical team, passing instruments and supplies, and responding to emergencies as needed. Assists in tissue retraction and limb support while ensuring the functionality and cleanliness of instruments.
  • Maintains strict adherence to aseptic techniques by preparing the sterile field prior to surgery.
  • Responsible for transporting and assisting patients during procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Prepares the operating room by organizing instruments, surgical trays, and necessary equipment, ensuring everything is in place for the procedure.
  • Verifies the integrity of surgical supplies and instruments, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Handles medications as directed by the RN, ensuring proper labeling and preparation for surgical use.
  • Coordinates with vendors and other departments to manage surgical supplies and equipment effectively.
  • Ensures all instruments and equipment are operational and ready for use, conducting regular checks for outdated items.
  • Maintains the sterility of the surgical environment through vigilant observation and rapid sterilization of instruments as required.
  • Safely manages patient specimens, ensuring proper labeling and handling.
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions and utilizes personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Provides support and guidance to other medical staff regarding equipment usage during procedures.
  • May assist with patient care tasks such as prepping and positioning patients for surgery.
  • Maintains specialty carts and stocks surgical rooms daily to ensure readiness.
  • Assists team members with gowning and gloving, and supports anesthesia teams as needed.
  • Participates in post-operative cleanup, ensuring the safe disposal of contaminated materials.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in medical terminology and surgical procedures.
  • Engages in educational opportunities and training as requested by management.
  • Participates in on-call duties as required.
  • Upholds the principles of service excellence and compliance with organizational standards, ensuring confidentiality and ethical conduct in all interactions.
