Position: Head Coach for Girls Soccer

Position Summary

The Head Coach for Girls Soccer at Making Waves Academy is tasked with creating an inclusive and educational sports program that enhances the athletic abilities of students while fostering their character development and team spirit. The emphasis is on cultivating a competitive mindset, but this is not the only focus.

Key Responsibilities

Team Management

  • Practice Sessions: Organize, plan, and lead practice sessions, ensuring clear communication of schedules and expectations with players and parents.
  • Game Day Coaching: Attend and coach during games, modeling appropriate behavior and sportsmanship for players and spectators.

Logistical Coordination

  • Equipment Management: Oversee the distribution and collection of uniforms and sports equipment.
  • Transportation Coordination: Collaborate with the Athletic Director and Parent Representative to arrange transportation for events.
  • Scheduling: Work with the Athletic Director to develop the game schedule, balancing it with academic commitments.

Team Environment

  • Foster a positive atmosphere for all participants, focusing on skill enhancement and personal growth.
  • Encourage players to recognize how their athletic and personal skills will benefit them in the future.
  • Actively demonstrate essential skills during practices, engaging with players to enhance their learning experience.

Supervision Duties

  • Ensure appropriate conduct of players during transportation on game days.
  • Remain available after practices and games until all players have departed.
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Trainer to address player injuries and promote safety.

Additional Expectations

Mission Alignment:

  • Exhibit knowledge of and commitment to Making Waves Academy's mission and values.
  • Develop a Team Mission Statement and a Coaches' Purpose Statement to guide the program.
  • Support other athletic programs within the department, recognizing shared resources and athletes.

Other Duties:

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Work Environment:

This seasonal role involves various settings, including sports fields and gymnasiums.

Physical Requirements:

Employees may need to walk, climb, bend, or stand for extended periods.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel may be necessary for events, including driving a school vehicle to practices and games.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Preferred experience coaching at a club or school level.
  • Background in playing the sport at various competitive levels.
  • Experience in coaching students.
  • Familiarity with Restorative Justice principles.
  • Understanding of relevant educational codes regarding student conduct.

Skills:

  • Effective communication with students, families, and staff.
  • Professional demeanor and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse community.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively.

Education:

  • Knowledge of the sport and teaching experience.
  • Preferred college education to inspire students.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • CTC Fingerprint/Certificate of Clearance required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
