About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Correctional Nurse to join our team at Amergis. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work in a correctional facility setting, providing high-quality patient care to inmates. Your expertise will be essential in addressing the unique challenges of the correctional environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
  • Perform focused interviews to identify specific patient needs
  • Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition
  • Conduct health histories on newly-admitted inmates
  • Make referrals to healthcare professionals as necessary
  • Determine the need for emergency hospital care and ensure medication administration follows standard operating procedures
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from healthcare members and document nursing diagnoses
  • Develop and implement patient care plans, prioritizing actions based on patient requirements
  • Monitor consistency between patient plans and medical staff actions
  • Perform interventions according to priorities, plans, and hospital policies
  • Initiate and evaluate patient education
  • Revised patient care plans based on evaluation, changes in medical plans, and effective/ineffective interventions
  • Document patient responses to nursing and other interventions
  • Supervise, train, and direct other healthcare professionals
Requirements
  • Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices
  • Minimum of one year of correctional healthcare experience preferred
  • Compliance with relevant professional standards of practice
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
  • Current CPR if applicable
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
  • Meet all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals, including supervisors, coworkers, and clients
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
