We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Seismology Group at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The successful candidate will have a strong background in seismology and machine learning, with experience in designing and implementing real-time machine learning approaches to classify local seismic events and reduce false detections.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will work closely with our team to develop modern, flexible, and efficient visualization tools for induced seismicity decision making. They will also be responsible for conducting original and independent research, collaborating with other LLNL researchers, and presenting research at meetings and publishing results in peer-reviewed journals.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of quantitative seismology and signal processing, as well as experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, and C++. They will also be able to interact effectively with a team of interdisciplinary scientists and communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities- Conduct original and independent research in seismology and machine learning
- Design and implement real-time machine learning approaches to classify local seismic events
- Develop modern, flexible, and efficient visualization tools for induced seismicity decision making
- Present research at meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals
- Collaborate with other LLNL researchers and interact with professional colleagues, mid-level management, and sponsors
- PhD in seismology, geophysics, or a related field
- Strong background in machine learning and signal processing
- Experience with programming languages such as Python, Java, and C++
- Ability to interact effectively with a team of interdisciplinary scientists
- Strong communication and presentation skills
