Position Overview:
This role collaborates closely with the Children's Program Coordinator to deliver essential services to children ranging from infancy to adolescence residing in supportive housing environments.
The Children's Program Assistant will support the Children's Program Coordinator in executing activities aligned with program goals, developmentally suitable practices, and the overarching program philosophy.
The Children's Program Assistant engages with children in both group settings and individual interactions.Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate a diverse range of activities aimed at promoting socio-emotional development in children and youth, including problem-solving, conflict resolution, and social skills enhancement.
- Offer cultural awareness experiences for children and youth.
- Document the progress of individual skill development.
- Maintain consistent communication with parents and guardians regarding the development and needs of children and youth.
- Ensure a safe, nurturing, and healthy learning atmosphere for children and youth.
- Foster regular open dialogue with parents and guardians.
- Report any suspected cases of child neglect to the supervisor.
- Keep accurate records, including attendance and time sheets.
- Participate in ongoing training as required.
- Collaborate as a team to provide a positive experience for children and youth.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of one year of experience working with low-income and homeless children, youth, and families is preferred. Reliable transportation to and from work is necessary. Candidates must pass and maintain Minnesota Background Study clearance.
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of safely navigating stairs, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching overhead, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
