Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Instructor to join our Recreation Programs team in Roanoke County, VA. As an Instructor, you will be responsible for leading a series of recreation programs in diverse areas with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction: Teach group classes for designated subjects or programs, ensuring that all participants are engaged and that the class abides by established standards.
  • Class Management: Motivate class participants to achieve their goals and maintain a positive atmosphere in the facility.
  • Facility Interaction: Interact with members, guests, and center staff to model a personal and inviting atmosphere for the facility.
  • Program Development: Stay current on recreation trends and recommend new or replacement equipment for areas.
  • Teamwork: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, customers, and the general public.
  • Communication: Participate in meetings to stay informed of facility issues and information.
Requirements
  • Education: Education or training in the assigned area of programming and instruction.
  • Experience: Some experience in teaching or instructing groups, with a preference for three or more years of experience.
  • Certifications: Valid Virginia driver's license with a good driving record, current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the principles and practices of group instruction, community recreation program needs, and effective communication skills.
Additional Requirements
  • Background Check: Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results.
  • Physical Condition: Good physical condition and ability to perform the job as described in the Physical and Environmental Demands section.
  • Availability: Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
