Job Summary

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant at MercyOne Eastern Iowa, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients. Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, you will administer physical therapy treatments to patients, working collaboratively to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Administer physical therapy treatments to patients, following a care plan established by the physical therapist.
  • Seek input from the physical therapist and suggest changes as needed, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.
  • Perform tasks and procedures safely, correctly, and effectively to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation, ensuring that it matches charges and addresses goals and progress.
  • Monitor patients' responses to treatment and provide feedback to the physical therapist.
  • Supervise and direct support staff, ensuring that they have the necessary information to provide high-quality care.
  • Coordinate treatments with support staff and provide them with information needed to provide care for patients.
Requirements
  • Associate degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant from an accredited program.
  • Licensure (or eligibility for licensure) by the State of Iowa to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Ability to function as a Physical Therapist Assistant in all commonly practiced aspects of patient care and treatment appropriate for assigned age group.
  • Ability to give clear instructions to individuals and groups ranging from infant to geriatric.
  • Ability to plan day-to-day activities and work independently.
  • Ability to put patients at ease and make them comfortable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with other hospital employees and guests.
