Job Overview

Position: Facility Maintenance Specialist

Salary: $15-$18 per hour

Role Summary

The Facility Maintenance Specialist at Morton Grove Park District plays a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the community center. This position encompasses a variety of maintenance duties and repairs as required. Candidates should be physically capable of lifting heavy items (over 75 lbs.).

Work Schedule

Availability: Must be available on weekends, specifically Saturday and Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm, with a commitment of up to 10 hours per week.

Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. A minimum of one year of prior experience in janitorial or maintenance roles is preferred. Candidates should be self-driven, possess sound judgment, and be able to work independently.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Facility Foreman.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial tasks to ensure both the interior and exterior of the community center are clean and well-maintained, including snow and ice removal.
  • Conduct routine maintenance activities such as cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, vacuuming, dusting, and washing all surfaces, including floors, walls, windows, and furniture.
  • Regularly inspect the entire facility, both upper and lower levels, during working hours for safety, security, and maintenance issues.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and be vigilant about potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Engage positively with all Park District staff, patrons, and the public.
  • Complete cleaning tasks as directed by the Foreman and follow established checklists.
  • Assist with cleaning and setup for events, parties, and rentals as needed.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Working Conditions

Psychological Considerations: The role involves working independently, with the need to seek supervision when necessary.

Physiological Considerations: Exposure to odors from cleaning agents is expected.

Environmental Considerations: Workers may experience cold temperatures due to the building's automated climate control during evening and weekend shifts, as well as exposure to cold, snow, and ice during outdoor maintenance tasks.
