Job Summary

This position is responsible for the rebuild and repair of drilling rig floor wrenches/Iron roughnecks. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, with experience in the oil and gas industry. The role requires excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Rebuild, repair, or refurbish drilling rig floor wrenches/Iron roughnecks to as-new conditions
  • Manage documentation required for tracking and verifying rebuilds and repairs
  • Delegate tasks to shop helpers and other technicians
  • Manage parts and assemblies required for rebuild (required parts lists, reordering inventory, outsourcing work)
  • Assist field-level technicians with troubleshooting issues when expertise is needed
  • Occasionally follow new rebuilds to the field for deployment and ensure functionality
  • Continuously understand and grow knowledge in drilling processes, new technology, etc.
  • Develop monitoring and diagnostics tools
  • Contribute to the development of best practices/standards
  • Document common troubleshooting problems that are first identified through troubleshooting experiences
  • Travel will be required at times to support rig up of rebuilt/repaired units and troubleshooting any issues
  • Pass on common issues or technical improvements to the technical team for continued improvement
  • Maintain company-issued tools and be knowledgeable and skillful in their use
  • Compliance with safety standards, regulations, reporting, and certifications
  • Complete required paperwork, documentation, and billing accurately and timely
  • Utilization of time management
Requirements
  • 4 years' experience in the field, shop, or manufacturing facility working on wrenches/Iron roughnecks
  • Working knowledge in the oil and gas industry preferred
  • Dependable, flexible, organized, motivated, assertive, and able to work in a rotational position
  • Team player with interpersonal skills to work with customers and technical staff
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances
  • Ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and diagnose locally and remotely
  • Computer skills and ability to learn workorder and project management specific software
Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is required frequently to use hands and digits to handle or feel work material. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Lifting/carry up to 50lbs occasionally, 20lbs frequently, and 5 to 10lbs daily. Must be able to use/wear applicable personal protective equipment which may include but is not limited to safety-toed footwear (with ankle height support), back support belt, hearing protection, safety eye-wear with side shields, gloves, and hard hat. May occasionally be required to wear approved/applicable respiratory protection equipment (respiratory protection guidelines would apply with regard to medical evaluation and fit testing of equipment). Frequent ascent/descent of stairs/steps, especially at field locations. Must be able to respond quickly to an emergency situation.
