Job Title: English Language Instructor

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced English Language Instructor to join our team at the Boys & Girls Club. As an English Language Instructor, you will be responsible for providing individualized and group English lessons to our members, with a focus on oral and written fluency required for their career fields.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with our team to develop English as a second language skills.
  • Reinforce daily English or literacy skills in our members with academic lag by promoting activities that integrate the language in real environments and scenarios.
  • Develop unit and lesson plans, with goals, objectives, topics, and activities for each class session, organizing the appropriate time for a lesson, and presenting the lesson logically and sequentially.
  • Provide individualized, small-group, and large-group instruction to meet the needs of each member.
  • Engage members in learning through best teaching practice strategies to achieve positive results.
  • Organize classroom procedures and routines and manage member behavior.
  • Keep appropriate records of member progress, prepare reports, and communicate progress.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable classroom environment. Carefully explain goals, policies, ground rules, and grading policies at the beginning of the program.
  • Perform various non-instructional duties, including taking daily attendance, among others.
  • Monitor member progress through regular formal and informal assessments.
  • Participate in committee work, family activities, and organizational activities.
  • Perform any other task requested by the supervisor.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in English Education or a related field from an accredited university.
  • 2+ years of experience as an English tutor or teacher, with a strong preference for prior experience in Puerto Rico.
  • TEFL/TESOL certification.
  • Ability to motivate by maintaining a visible, approachable, and positive outlook in the handling of situations.
  • Computer/technological skills.
  • Ability to research and abstract relevant educational developments.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time well.
  • Ability to prepare and manage budget and allocated resources.
  • Education and Training — Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Provide Consultation and Advice to others — Provide guidance and expert advice to management or other groups on technical, systems, or process-related issues.
  • Active Learning — Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
  • Individuals may need to sit or stand as needed. The position may require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. May reach above shoulder height or below the waist and lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday. Must be able to lift 15 pounds and use proper lifting techniques.
