Physical Therapist

We are seeking a skilled Physical Therapist to join our team at Abilities First, a leading provider of services for individuals with developmental disabilities. As a Physical Therapist, you will play a critical role in developing and implementing physical therapy programs for students in our school program.
Responsibilities- Evaluate students on assigned caseload and determine appropriate program goals.
- Provide direct treatment to students on assigned caseload.
- Schedule assigned caseload in conjunction with classroom staff and other related services.
- Submit all written documentation in accordance with School and Preschool policies.
- Periodically reassess student's progress toward goals, and adjust goals as necessary.
- Assess student's need for equipment and recommend, fabricate, and adapt equipment as needed.
- Communicate regularly with parents, classroom staff, and related service personnel regarding individual student's program and progress.
- Instruct parents, classroom staff, and related service personnel in proper positioning, lifting, and carrying techniques, ambulation, and transfer techniques.
- Inform appropriate staff and parents/primary caregivers of need for periodic reassessment by the child's physician.
- Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and parent/teacher conferences as indicated.
- Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants and train and supervise affiliating student physical therapists as assigned.
- Attend CSE annual reviews as requested to provide input relating to child's therapy needs in educational setting.
- Assist in maintenance of treatment sites and provide department in-service as indicated.
- Doctoral Degree or Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school.
- Licensed with NYS Department of Education, or eligible for licensure (temporary permit).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, push and pull students in wheelchairs, lift, bend, squat, turn in the knees, pivot, and grasp with both hands.
- Valid NYS driver's license deemed acceptable by our insurance carrier.
