As a Registered Nurse Resident in our Med Surg department, you will have the opportunity to work alongside seasoned nurses who are eager to educate and coach new graduates. You will participate in a residency core curriculum based on your individual learning needs, and will provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse Resident include:

  • Participating in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs
  • Providing direct nursing care, alongside a coach, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization
  • Establishing and/or revising priorities for patient care activities based on acuity of need, patient preference, and resource availability
  • Initiating and/or maintaining interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients
  • Responding to data indicating risk to individual's health and initiating action to correct, reduce, or prevent the risk
  • Seeking supervision, consultation, assistance when unable to perform safely and independently
  • Complying with established hospital/department personnel policies
  • Using communication strategies in order to achieve desirable outcomes
  • Documenting in patient's medical record according to established guidelines

Education and Certifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • BSN preferred
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department
