Public Safety Telecommunicator

At the City of Glasgow, we are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Public Safety Telecommunicator to join our team. As a Public Safety Telecommunicator, you will play a critical role in responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, providing critical information to first responders, and performing related administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities:- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls, prioritizing and documenting all calls for service.
- Relay information to the appropriate source for assistance, including police, fire, and medical services.
- Administer care by providing pre-arrival medical instructions or directing callers through procedures such as CPR, childbirth, or controlling of blood loss.
- Manage communication of emergency personnel responding to incidents and assist with incident operations during events such as active shooter and officer down responses.
- Take protective actions for first responders by providing life-safety information during responses such as officer down and MAYDAY calls.
- Analyze conflicting and/or limited location information to direct first responders to the scene.
- Negotiate with suicidal callers or hostage takers.
- Deploy to the scene of planned events, major emergencies, or ongoing incidents.
- Operate LINK/NCIC terminal to obtain and disseminate pertinent information.
- Operate CAD terminal efficiently to document data, events, responder's actions, and annotate call dispositions.
- Effectively review files for missing persons, wanted person, protective orders, and stolen items.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or its equivalent (GED).
- Completion of Telecommunications Academy.
- Must be certified as a Telecommunicator in the State of Kentucky or must obtain certification within six (6) months of date of employment.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Must possess well-developed listening communications skills.
- Must be able to work a varied schedule.
- Ability to successfully complete a background, polygraph and drug screen, suitability screening.
- Yearly in-service required eight (8) hours to maintain Telecommunicator certification.
- Bi-annual in-service to maintain LINK/NCIC certification for terminal access.
- Computer literate.
- Text proficient.
- Possess data analytics skills.
- An expert multi-tasker.
- Ability to calm and control stressful situations.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems.
- Knowledge of geographical area and agency jurisdictions.
- Ability to work and remain calm under extreme pressure in a noisy environment.
- Ability to maintain confidential information and material.
- Ability to listen to and understand instructions and requests for information.
- Ability to learn and retain departmental policies.
