Job Overview

Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for conducting thorough inspections within designated production areas. This role involves collecting and analyzing samples, documenting findings, and reporting any discrepancies from established quality standards. The specialist ensures that products comply with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) critical limits and Critical Quality (CQ) parameters.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Conduct routine chemical analyses on various samples, including syrups, brines, raw materials, in-process items, and finished goods.
  • Assess products for physical imperfections and confirm that these do not surpass specified limits.
  • Perform pH evaluations on in-process and equilibrated samples, ensuring compliance with HACCP critical pH limits and calibrating equipment as necessary.
  • Utilize measurement techniques and sound judgment to verify that products meet expected specifications regarding appearance, volume, spice levels, and other criteria.
  • Execute tests on closures to ensure they meet established standards.
  • Calibrate thermometers utilized in production processes.
  • Conduct inspections for glass breakage on production lines when incidents occur.
  • Verify blancher temperatures and salt concentrations.
  • Inspect packaging of finished products for defects, including incorrect labeling, capping issues, and product inconsistencies.
  • Adhere to established protocols for holding products that do not meet quality standards.
  • Monitor Critical Quality Points (CQP) and take necessary actions when limits are exceeded.
  • Ensure all testing results align with specifications and respond appropriately to any out-of-range samples.
  • Conduct taste evaluations on finished product samples.
  • Complete required documentation for quality control and production schedules.
  • Input data for in-process and finished products into the PreSage data management system.
  • Maintain and assess quality control fermentation samples.
  • Effectively communicate any issues to manufacturing and quality control management.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment and be prepared to cover various departmental areas as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Comply with safety regulations and company policies.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Engage in training sessions, employee meetings, committees, and project teams as required.
  • Receive and execute written and verbal instructions related to job tasks and perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

A high school diploma is required, along with additional training. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English is essential. Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions, are necessary for job functions. The ability to follow directions and complete special projects as directed by management is crucial.

Supervisory Role

This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Equipment and Tools

Utilizes various tools and equipment, including scales, vacuum gauges, thermometers, salometers, Baume scales, refractometers, rulers, pH meters, graduated cylinders, pans, strainers, knives, spatulas, and calculators.
