Overview:
The skilled Nurse, operating within a similar healthcare environment, functions autonomously and exhibits a comprehensive understanding of all pertinent elements of a clinical scenario.
Provides both routine and intricate care, with a focus on long-term objectives and strategies. Continues to enhance the capability to manage and navigate the complexities of clinical nursing. Effectively assigns and delegates tasks to other healthcare providers to optimize the clinical workflow.This role is dedicated to the Mother Baby Department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Meets the standards of the OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- In alignment with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, delivers nursing care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for designated patients.
- Addresses the increasingly intricate psychological, emotional, cultural, and social requirements of patients and their families, in accordance with their practice level.
- Administers medications and treatments following established protocols; monitors for side effects and the effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
- Records patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Evaluates learning needs and offers education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and resources.

Standard I: Utilizes the Nursing Process
- Employs critical thinking to assess the physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients and families.

- Executes patient care and therapeutic procedures; monitors and documents the progress of treatment and educational goals.

Standard II: Patient Throughput & Patient Flow Process
- Anticipates and plans for admission, discharge, and transfer needs to enhance patient flow.
- Utilizes effective communication systems and tools to streamline the discharge process.
- Provides guidance on tools and techniques for verifying orders to ensure accuracy.
Standard III: Unit Operations
- Plans, directs, and assesses overall nursing care and operations within a specific nursing unit during assigned shifts.
- Demonstrates responsible stewardship in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Evaluates departmental staffing needs and actively participates in resource allocation efforts.
- Educates and trains others on operational practices, ethics, and regulations within the healthcare industry.
Standard IV: Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations
- Integrates patient safety practices and guidelines to foster a secure environment, leading to positive patient outcomes.
- Demonstrates accountability for nursing research and quality improvement initiatives.
- Provides evidence-based nursing care.
- Effectively communicates patient information across the continuum of care.
- Educates and trains others on operational practices, ethics, and regulations within the healthcare sector.
- Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local healthcare-related laws and regulations; capable of compliance in healthcare practices and activities.
Technical Competencies:
- Follows established clinical policies and standards.
- Analyzes policy and standards documentation to ensure organizational compliance.
- Provides constructive feedback for procedural improvements.

- Engages with control and monitoring mechanisms, tools, and techniques.
Requirements:
Experience:
1 year of experience in the relevant nursing specialty preferred. Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.
Education:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred. All newly hired experienced RNs must complete New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of employment.
New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Department-specific competency validation.
Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is mandatory.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
RN License in the state of employment or compact. BLS certification required. Current STABLE certification from an approved course is required at the time of hire or prior to the end of orientation for experienced nurses; within 90 days of hire for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty, with ongoing maintenance of course certification thereafter.
Current NRP certification is required at the time of hire for experienced nurses; within 60 days for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty, with ongoing maintenance of certification thereafter.
