Job Overview:

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for assessing the needs of students, devising strategies, and delivering evidence-based interventions to support individuals with communication disorders across various educational environments, including general and special education settings.

Students may present with isolated speech sound errors or complex disabilities. The SLP must be skilled in implementing and documenting diverse strategies and utilizing multiple service delivery models to promote effective communication.

Services provided encompass assessment and intervention in areas such as speech sound disorders, voice, language, pragmatics, fluency, literacy (phonology), augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and dysphagia.

Qualifications:
Applicants should demonstrate strong interpersonal and organizational abilities. Bilingual candidates are particularly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Employ a wide range of assessment techniques and analytical skills.
  • Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collect and evaluate data for monitoring student progress.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams on initiatives within the Intermediate Unit and district.
  • Exhibit exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Engage in strategic planning for service delivery to students.
Work Environment:

The characteristics of the work environment are representative of those encountered while performing essential job functions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to assist individuals with disabilities in fulfilling these functions. The typical noise level is moderate.

Physical Requirements:

Regular duties include sitting and using hands, frequent walking, reaching, and verbal communication. The role may require standing for extended periods, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 25 pounds.

Specific vision abilities necessary for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Details:

This is a full-time position requiring 193 days of service across various itinerant locations. The workday consists of 7.5 hours, with specific hours determined by assignments in high school, middle school, or elementary school settings.

Travel Requirements:

Travel is contingent upon assignments within the designated area and will be reimbursed in accordance with current IRS guidelines.

Education and Credentials:
  • Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Education Certificate in Speech-Language Impaired PK-12 is mandatory.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) is required.
  • Preferred: License to practice Speech-Language Pathology issued by the PA Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs.
  • Strong Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) candidates may be considered for Long Term Substitute positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive understanding of current Pennsylvania and Federal Special Education Regulations.
  • Clinical proficiency to address a wide spectrum of communicative needs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer technology and Augmentative-Alternative Communication.
  • Adherence to health, safety, and confidentiality regulations.
Work Authorization:

Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States is required.
