Activity Therapist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Activity Therapist to join our team at Coachella Valley Behavioral Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary treatment team, you will play a vital role in helping patients achieve their treatment goals through engaging and meaningful activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough activity assessments to identify patient needs, skills, and interests, and develop individualized treatment plans to promote progress and well-being.
  • Plan, organize, and implement a variety of activities, including therapeutic leisure skills, leisure education, and community outings, to promote patient engagement and motivation.
  • Facilitate and lead activity sessions to improve patient mental and physical well-being, and provide instruction and guidance on activities such as sports, dance, music, art, and relaxation techniques.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that incorporate activity interventions to meet patient needs and interests, and help patients achieve their treatment goals.
  • Engage patients in therapeutic activities, such as exercise, games, and community outings, to promote social skills and independence.
  • Modify activities to suit the needs of specific patient groups, and demonstrate a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards patients at all times.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related field is required; Master's degree is preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience in recreation in a healthcare setting is required, with knowledge of the patient population served by the facility.
  • Previous experience in recreation in a healthcare setting is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Requires licensure as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC), or currently in the process of obtaining national certification, depending on state requirements.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification is required (training available upon hire and offered by the facility).
