Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC) has been a leading healthcare provider in Nome and surrounding villages since 1978, with a state-of-the-art hospital upgrade in 2013.
The optometry department is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including four exam lanes, ancillary testing, and an optical department. This is an exciting opportunity for a medically oriented OD to join a collaborative and easy-going practice.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide high-quality eyecare at the hospital and in village clinics.
- Provide outpatient care for patients of all ages with eye-related disorders and conditions.
- Document exams thoroughly in the electronic health record, including anterior and posterior evaluations, and prescribe medication, glasses, contact lenses, and vision aids as needed.
- Practice optometry to the full scope of licensure, consulting with other healthcare practitioners as necessary.
- Refer patients to trusted specialists and follow up on results and reports.
- Educate patients on proper eye care, including eye hygiene and safety.
- Provide excellent customer service and organizational skills, with flexibility to adapt to variable situations.
