Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Meat Department Team Member to join our team at Iron River Cooperative. As a Meat Cutter Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of meat products for our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Properly cut, trim, weigh, wrap, and stock a variety of fresh and packaged meat department products in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assist in managing department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports and ordering meat/products as needed to satisfy customer demand and advertised sale needs.
  • Assist in implementing pricing on new items while maintaining budgeted gross margins.
  • Set up advertising displays or arrange merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales.
  • Assist in developing and implementing localized merchandising plans for the department, setting up and creating displays for new and seasonal items as well as items tied-in with other department promotions.
  • Prepare, maintain, and track all types of records concerning inventories to calculate gross margins according to store expectations.
  • Maintain effective housekeeping programs, keeping merchandise clean and fresh to maintain a positive customer perception and meet all health department regulations.
  • Assist in controlling department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, controlling costs, and reducing losses due to shrinkage.
  • Assist customers with questions.
  • Unload trucks, prepare product for sale, and stock shelves.
  • Check invoices for shorts, miss picks, and call in/submit items for credit.
  • Record waste and damage and process according to established guidelines.
  • Maintain COO and other regulatory requirements.
  • Reset sections as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the Meat Department in the absence of the Meat Department Head.
  • Assist in oversight of the Meat Department's productivity and efficiency.
  • Open the store as needed.
  • Work back stock to ensure proper rotation.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Journeyman Meat Cutter

Language Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two-and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with l0's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement. Ability to use and understand percentages to calculate gross margins and track performance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Operate a computerized scale

Current ordering technology

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Ability to obtain a safe serve certification.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
