Job Summary

The Registered Nurse in Electrophysiology (RN EP) plays a critical role in providing specialized nursing care to patients undergoing electrophysiology procedures. This position requires strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Procedure Care:
    • Conduct thorough patient assessments and review medical histories prior to EP procedures.
    • Educate patients and families about the procedure, potential risks, and post-procedure care.
    • Obtain and confirm informed consent for procedures.
    • Administer prescribed pre-procedural medications.
  • Intra-Procedure Care:
    • Assist electrophysiologists during EP studies, ablations, and device implants such as pacemakers and ICDs.
    • Monitor and document patients' vital signs and cardiac rhythms during procedures.
    • Ensure the sterility and proper functioning of EP lab equipment.
    • Operate and troubleshoot EP lab equipment including mapping systems and defibrillators.
  • Post-Procedure Care:
    • Monitor patients in the recovery area for stable vital signs and manage any immediate complications.
    • Provide post-procedure education to patients and their families regarding care instructions and follow-up.
    • Administer post-procedural medications and provide wound care.
  • Patient Education and Support:
    • Educate patients and families about heart rhythm disorders, treatment options, and lifestyle changes.
    • Provide emotional support and address any concerns from patients and families.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Accurately document patient care activities, including pre- and post-procedure notes, medication administration, and patient responses.
    • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards in all aspects of patient care.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with the EP team and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Effectively communicate with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to patient care planning.
  • Professional Development:
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of advancements in electrophysiology and cardiac care.
    • Participate in continuing education and training programs.
    • Maintain required certifications and licensure.
