Job Summary:

As a Senior Trailer Technician at J.B. Hunt Transport, you will play a critical role in ensuring the maintenance and repair of our trailers, containers, chassis, and other equipment. This position requires a high level of expertise and attention to detail, as you will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and completing complex maintenance processes to ensure that our units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advanced Maintenance and Repair: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and complex repairs as they pertain to trailer maintenance, air brake systems, and FHWA Inspections.
  • Specialized Equipment Repair: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair specialized trailer equipment such as refrigerated units.
  • Training and Mentorship: Onboard and mentor new Tractor Technician trainees; act as team lead to include beginning or ending shifts.
  • Original Equipment Manufacturing Training: Participate in Original Equipment Manufacturing training for OE repairs.
  • Independent Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot tractor issues, develop innovative solutions, and work independently under minimal direction.
  • Shop Safety and Communication: Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures; maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
  • Secondary Maintenance and Repair: Complete secondary maintenance on escalated repairs.
  • Accurate and Efficient Repair: Accurately perform the most difficult repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and exceed requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
Requirements:
  • Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age with 3 or more years of experience in semi-trailer maintenance and repair or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent experience.
  • DOT Certification: Must be DOT certified in FHWA inspections and air brakes.
  • Basic Tools: Able to supply your own basic tools, or purchase through our toolbox purchase program.
  • Physical Demands: Willingness to work outdoors in the elements; able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 3 or more years of experience in semi-trailer maintenance and repair or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent experience.
  • EPA Certification: EPA section 608 certification and Refrigeration License.
  • Advanced Welding Skills: Advanced welding skills (MIG and stick).
  • Knowledge of ABS Systems: Knowledge of ABS systems.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Time Management: Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds).
