Job Summary

This position is responsible for the receipt and processing of biological specimens, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and performance of waived and moderately complex tests. The successful candidate will report to the department supervisor and may take direction from higher-level technical personnel. Key responsibilities include assisting the coordinator and supervisor in the functional operation of the histology section, maintaining quality control and quality assurance systems, and performing technical tasks with a high level of competency.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform all essential functions as defined by the department, at a high level of competency, including highly complex testing under supervision.
  2. Recognize and respond to abnormal patient and/or QC results for waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing.
  3. Maintain inventory and ordering of specific supplies in designated areas, recognizing opportunities for improvements in financial performance.
  4. Self-direct and motivate to contribute to projects identified by the supervisor, actively training basic entry-level functions and tasks.
  5. Communicate professionally, courteously, effectively, and accurately with internal and external customers, promoting positive communications that enhance teamwork.
Requirements
  • Requires an Associate's degree and eligibility for ASCP HT registry or ASCP HT registry or a Bachelor's degree with Anatomic Pathology departmental-specific certification documentation within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be willing to perform/cross-train in all areas of the Anatomic Pathology section and have demonstrated competency in all aspects of work.
  • Must have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
