Overview

The Pediatric Speech Therapist is responsible for assessing and evaluating patients' speech, language, oral motor skills, swallowing, and cognitive abilities. This role involves scoring and interpreting assessments, planning and delivering therapeutic interventions, educating patients and their families, and liaising with external agencies and referral sources.

This position provides age-appropriate care for patients ranging from infancy to 21 years, as well as select adult patients, in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough evaluations of patients with diverse diagnoses to assess developmental and functional status using standardized tools and clinical observations.
- Identify patient strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and develop personalized treatment plans that address the needs of both patients and their families.
- Implement therapeutic interventions for patients experiencing developmental delays or functional challenges, utilizing tailored activities and techniques to promote optimal development and independence.
- Monitor patient progress and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans based on observed changes in condition.
- Provide education to patients, parents, and caregivers regarding treatment objectives and home therapy activities, ensuring understanding and compliance.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient evaluations, progress, treatment plans, and recommendations in accordance with hospital and accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, third-party payers, and other healthcare professionals to communicate patient status effectively.
- Engage in Evidence-Based Practice by staying informed of current literature and integrating findings into clinical care.
- Manage administrative tasks related to patient caseload, including scheduling, billing, and timely documentation.
- Conduct educational programs for hospital staff, students, and the community regarding Speech Language Pathology.
- Supervise students from accredited programs and Clinical Fellows, and provide instruction to Medical Residents, Medical Students, and Nursing staff.

Qualifications
- Education: Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
- Licensure: Valid Ohio License in Speech Pathology
- Certifications: Certification in Speech Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association; CPR certification required within 60 days of hire or expiration.
- Experience: Previous experience in pediatric settings is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequent standing/walking
- Ability to lift/carry up to 15 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Constant finger dexterity
- Frequent kneeling, bending, and reaching
- Constant talking, hearing, and seeing
- Frequent pushing/pulling
