Position Overview

The Hemodialysis Technician plays a crucial role in the renal care team, tasked with the operation and upkeep of dialysis equipment, monitoring patients throughout their treatment sessions, and ensuring the overall safety and quality of the dialysis process.

This position supports the renal care team by providing essential nursing assistance and executing technical procedures under direct supervision.


Key Responsibilities

1. Conducts hemodialysis treatments for patients, which includes:
- Preparation and organization of supplies
- Care coordination
- Accurate documentation
- Reporting any abnormal findings to the RN/LPN.

2. Aids in the daily operations of the department by:
- Setting up dialysis treatments
- Performing safety checks
- Assisting with the cleaning and turnover of machines between patients.

3. Collaborates effectively with colleagues, manages resources efficiently, maintains adequate supplies, and communicates clearly with both the healthcare team and patients.

4. Performs quality control monitoring of the hemodialysis water system and equipment, ensuring:
- Documentation of results
- Reporting of deviations
- Implementation of corrective strategies.

5. Mentors new Hemodialysis Technicians, assists with their orientation, and evaluates their competency through training.

6. Conducts preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, reports unsafe conditions, and assists with machine repairs as necessary.

7. Responds to emergencies, adheres to patient safety protocols, utilizes appropriate safety devices, safeguards confidential information, and complies with organizational policies and procedures.

8. Engages in clerical tasks, which include:
- Assisting with appointment scheduling
- Entering charges
- Maintaining necessary paperwork
- Ensuring adequate inventory levels.

9. Performs additional duties as assigned or required.


Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience: 0 to 1 year of experience in Nephrology, including Hemodialysis (HD), is required.

Licensure/Certification: Must possess Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) certification and BLS (CPR) certification from American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider.
