Senior Research Contracts Specialist

UT Southwestern seeks a highly skilled Senior Research Contracts Specialist to join its Sponsored Programs department. The ideal candidate will possess subject matter expertise in research-related agreements, with the ability to draft, review, and negotiate contracts with sponsors and sub-recipients. Strong understanding of financial systems, University policies, and federal regulations is essential. Additionally, the successful candidate will have knowledge of Uniform Guidance and the ability to monitor research agreements. Intellectual Property expertise and collaboration with internal stakeholders, such as the Office of Technology Development, Clinical Research, or HRPP, are also required.

Required Experience and EducationThe successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field, with at least six years of experience in business or public administration, with an emphasis on customer service in financial or contracting positions. An advanced degree, such as a Master's or Juris Doctor, is preferred. Additionally, the candidate will be required to complete the State of Texas Contract Management certification (CTCM), which may be obtained after hiring.
Job Duties- Drafts and reviews contract documents, revising contract language to meet legal requirements, including University policies, UT System policies, and applicable state and federal laws.
- Possesses one or more areas of specialized knowledge with respect to contract types, such as educational agreements, hospitality industry agreements, software licenses, etc.
- Negotiates contract terms with other parties, requiring communication with various levels of legal and business professionals, including follow-up on pending documentation to ensure timely completion of contracts.
- Maintains communication with University stakeholders, including faculty, administration, and executive staff, concerning contract negotiations, process, and status, including follow-up on pending documentation to ensure timely completion of contracts.
- Interprets contract terms and conditions, handles requests and approval processes for amendments or contract extensions, and provides principal legal review of contracts.
- Manages contracts after execution to ensure contractor performance compliance, drafts correspondence related to the contract negotiation process, and participates with the Supply Chain Management team in the solicitation process prior to contract award.
- Provides guidance and training for Contracts Specialists and Contract Administrators, oversees the treatment of complex issues arising in contracting matters, and keeps abreast of all statutes, regulations, and policies related to procurement and contracting requirements.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
