Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator II

Objective - The Grade II Operator is accountable for the effective operation and upkeep of the wastewater treatment facility, reporting directly to the Chief Plant Operator. This role also involves supporting the maintenance of other related projects as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts operation, inspection, cleaning, repair, replacement, and maintenance of various equipment including piping, valves, motors, pumps, and chemical feed systems; assists in significant repairs as needed.
- Performs routine inspections and monitoring of plant operations, documenting findings by interpreting gauges, dials, and other instruments; adjusts process controls as directed and identifies operational issues for resolution.
- Engages in general maintenance tasks around the facility, including equipment lubrication and landscape management.
- Alerts the Chief Plant Operator regarding low inventory levels of consumables.
- Utilizes various tools and equipment essential for maintaining the wastewater treatment systems.
- Operates and oversees effluent disposal irrigation systems.
- Conducts basic laboratory testing and analysis for water pollution control; collects samples and maintains compliance with quality assurance protocols.
- Assists in the maintenance of equipment under supervision.
- Performs general cleaning duties within the facility.
- Undertakes a variety of maintenance activities such as carpentry, painting, and electrical work to complete projects within set timelines.
- Inspects and troubleshoots equipment and systems as necessary.
- Communicates any operational issues to the Chief Plant Operator.
- Supports skilled maintenance workers and subcontractors in project tasks.
- Maintains tools and equipment to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
- Responds to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns.
- Adheres to all safety protocols and regulations specific to the facility.
- Completes additional tasks as assigned by the Chief Plant Operator.
- Maintains attendance standards as per company policies.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in general computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; ability to learn site-specific software.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods; lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds; climb stairs and ladders; work in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current California Grade II Wastewater Certification is mandatory.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
- Valid California driver's license.
- A degree is advantageous but not essential.
Work Environment
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors at a wastewater reclamation facility.
