Position Overview
The Ladders is actively seeking a Surety Underwriter to become part of our dynamic team.

In the role of Surety Underwriter, you will engage in marketing, underwriting, and servicing independent agents, brokers, and Transactional Contract Surety accounts within a designated territory. Utilizing your exceptional relationship-building skills, you will cultivate and sustain positive connections while focusing on relationship development rather than merely transactional sales. Your business and financial acumen will be essential in conducting primary credit underwriting and financial/risk assessments, offering recommendations, and making informed decisions regarding both new and existing accounts. Key Responsibilities:
  • Market and underwrite Transactional Contract business in designated regions.
  • Under moderate supervision, manage and underwrite moderately complex risks for a portfolio typically associated with a specific geographic area and/or producer network.
  • Solicit surety account submissions from assigned producers through proactive marketing efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to less experienced underwriters, helping to uphold underwriting standards within the office.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a related field is typically required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience is expected, with a preference for 4 or more years of surety underwriting experience or equivalent surety-related business experience.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to assess and evaluate underwriting risks within the scope of responsibility.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex analyses and information clearly in both written and oral formats for underwriting or training purposes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective interactions with agents, brokers, CPAs, bankers, attorneys, and other stakeholders.
