Job SummaryThe Trauma/Surgical ICU (TSICU) is a 28-bed critical care unit specializing in the care of traumatically injured patients or those undergoing complex surgeries requiring close monitoring and care. Patients are admitted directly from the emergency department, the Ross Trauma Admitting Area, or the operating room.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Support patients' activities of daily living and plan of care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Communicate with and support the healthcare team, patients, and/or patients' family or significant other(s).
- Maintain and demonstrate high standards of professional ethics.
**Technical Duties:**
- Perform phlebotomy, vital signs, point of care testing, EKGs, and Foley catheter care as directed by the RN.
- Identify and communicate changes in patient status to the RN and respond appropriately.
- Reinforce education of patients and family/responsible party regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
- Participate in Cooper patient satisfaction initiatives and goals.
- Assist in admission, transfers, and discharges of patients to and from the unit.
**Requirements:**
- Active EMT certification.
- 0-2 years of experience preferred.
- High School/GED.
- Successful completion of an unlicensed healthcare provider/technician program.
- Completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited RN Program.
- AHA Basic Life Support certification - required.
