Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer

Objective: This role involves the examination, evaluation, and resolution of issues related to supplier components, working collaboratively with internal teams and suppliers to guarantee the quality and operational effectiveness of incoming parts.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee and report on initiatives for Model Year and Running Change Measures.
- Collaborate with the Supplier Quality Engineer on boundary samples, assess trial components, provide support on the production line, and communicate part readiness for launch.
- Lead investigations and root cause analysis utilizing problem-solving techniques and continuous improvement strategies.
- Assist Production Operations with supplier-related challenges, process enhancements, and cross-departmental efforts to meet quality, safety, and production objectives.
- Manage part sorting activities with third-party services across various locations.
- Initiate containment measures internally and relay feedback to Supplier Quality and relevant suppliers.
- Commence supplier notifications and document initial problem-solving efforts.
- Facilitate communication and coordination of part quality and data between supplier facilities.
- Manage part campaigns for retrofitting and reworking.
- Coordinate quality-related activities for engines and transmissions with colleagues from the German engine plant and suppliers.
- Oversee repair processes for engines and transmissions in collaboration with suppliers and Daimler plants.
- Maintain inventory for spare and repair parts for engines and transmissions.
- Ensure all repair procedures align with Daimler engine/transmission plants and OEM repair technicians.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Experience with handheld measurement instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers) and understanding of GD&T and SPC analysis.
- Ability to uphold the fundamental requirements of a quality system within an automotive manufacturing context, including APQP steps, control plan validation, PFMEA reviews, and audits.
- Familiarity with specific manufacturing processes, particularly chassis drivetrain components, and experience in welding, stamping, injection/blow molding, casting, and machining. Knowledge of powertrain components such as brakes, suspension, exhaust, steering, HVAC, engine, and transmission systems.
- Understanding of internal components of engines and transmissions and their troubleshooting.
- Strong analytical skills employing established methodologies such as 8D, 5-WHY, DOE, RedX, and Six Sigma.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical knowledge of engine/transmission components and experience; proficiency in German; direct experience with OEM or Tier 1 suppliers.
- Work is typically conducted in an office, laboratory, manufacturing floor, or machine shop environment, involving physical activities such as sitting, standing, reaching, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Must adhere to all relevant safety protocols.
