Job Summary

This role is responsible for purchasing food and supplies, maintaining inventory, receiving, stocking, and rotating all stock items for the food and nutrition department within budgetary guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Purchase and maintain inventory to provide par levels while keeping within the department's budgetary goals. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and make recommendations to management.
  2. Take inventory of food and supplies to determine ordering quantities based on menu needs, supply levels, and budget guidelines. Maintain food and supplies storage in a clean and organized manner to meet organization and regulatory requirements.
  3. Receive food and supplies, checking items received against invoice for accuracy and correct charges. Note any discrepancies on invoice and with supplier. Calculate and correct pricing for substitutions. Inspect all items received to ensure the highest level of quality and return items not meeting standards.
  4. Train and provide leadership for new staff members, those performing shipping, receiving, inventory, and/or storage work. Oversee the preparation, set up, service, and billing of special events and catering staff during special events.
  5. Verify cash deposits and provide completed cash reports to Finance.
  6. Work independently, under minimal supervision, following established guidelines and procedures. Use independent judgment to meet the supply needs of internal customers in shortage or out-of-stock situations. Represent the organization's interests to external clients, including supply vendors and delivery personnel.
Requirements

This position requires a high school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Requires reading, writing, and mathematical skills. Two years of related experience in food service preparation and purchasing is preferred. Good organizational skills and effective interpersonal communication skills are essential. Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required by state or other authority is necessary.

Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital or the Whole Health Clinic must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

Ability to learn and use specialized purchasing software programs is required.

Additional related education and/or experience is preferred.
