Position Title: Service Technician Apprentice
Department: Marketing
Reports To: Service Supervisor
Base Pay Rate: $18.04 per hour / $37,523.20 annually
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Hourly
Job Summary: This role serves as an introductory training opportunity within the organization. Candidates will engage in a structured learning environment, gaining hands-on experience, digital training, and classroom education focused on the maintenance of natural gas systems. The apprentice will acquire essential skills in Meter Maintenance Procedures, Emergency Protocols, and Post-Meter Operations.
Training Requirements: The incumbent is expected to achieve specific training milestones within a designated timeframe to qualify for advancement. Adherence to the District's Gold Standard for Customer Service is mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the upkeep of the natural gas infrastructure from the riser to residential and commercial piping, including regulators and meters.
- Meter Maintenance: Participate in the upkeep and repair of meter sets, including reading and removal tasks.
- Post-Meter Operations: Aid in activating gas services for new and existing clients, including conducting safety inspections.
- Support pressure testing to ensure piping integrity and compliance with operational standards.
- Conduct routine checks of gas appliances to guarantee safety and functionality.
- Emergency Response: Collaborate with first responders on gas leak and carbon monoxide incidents, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
Additional Duties:
- Assist in servicing natural gas water heaters and performing maintenance tasks.
- Document all service activities and maintain accurate records of work performed.
- Ensure the proper care and maintenance of company vehicles and tools.
- Support other departments as directed by the Service Supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent, with up to two years of relevant experience preferred.
Essential Skills:
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures related to natural gas systems.
- Basic mechanical skills and the ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
Working Conditions: This position involves both indoor and outdoor work, with exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards. Regular attendance and the ability to work flexible hours are required.
