Key Responsibilities:
Effectively conducts a range of radiologic examinations, including general diagnostic imaging, orthopedic assessments, and mammography.
Engages with patients to clarify procedures, gather clinical history, ensure understanding, and address any inquiries or concerns.
Positions patients appropriately and selects exposure parameters for various imaging studies while ensuring patient safety and radiation protection in line with established protocols.
Confirms patient identity and accurately labels images, cross-referencing requisitions with physician orders to guarantee examination precision, and processes images to maintain high-quality standards, following up with patients as needed.
Collaborates and consults with physicians, working autonomously outside the department with healthcare providers.Maintains and organizes records in compliance with regulatory standards and inputs patient and study data into the radiology information system.
Acts as a technical expert, mentor, and/or preceptor for students and staff, serving as a resource within the facility and across the organization. Supports accreditation initiatives.Performs various patient positioning and transportation tasks, which involve lifting and pushing/pulling, while adhering to proper techniques.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients.
Must exhibit understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's condition, interpreting the necessary information to identify each patient's specific needs and provide appropriate care as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.
Age-specific information is further detailed in departmental job standards.Handles specimens for laboratory testing.
Conducts venipuncture and collects other specimens from patients of all ages according to established protocols. Seeks medical assistance when deemed necessary.
Prioritizes specimen collection according to scheduled draw times, ensuring completion of collection tasks in accordance with protocols.
Ensures specimens are accurately labeled and suitable for testing, resolving any identification or requisition issues and clarifying requests.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin, and
Registered Technologist (RT) registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within six months unless exempted by the department leader.
Education Required:
Advanced training beyond high school, including completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
Experience Required:
No prior experience necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Proficient in radiology positioning and techniques.
Understanding of radiation safety, anatomy, and radiology equipment.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills to collaborate effectively with physicians, patients, and other staff members.
Ability to work independently and possess intermediate computer skills.
Must fulfill all knowledge and competency requirements for mammography.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, and reaching above shoulder level frequently throughout the workday.
Must be able to stand/walk for the majority of the day.
Must be able to:
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
- lift up to 20 lbs. overhead.
- carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
Must be able to:
- push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
- perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance from a second person.
May encounter mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards, as well as exposure to blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be utilized as necessary.
Operates all necessary equipment to fulfill job responsibilities.Must possess clear speech, vision, and hearing.
