The Sizer School Board of Trustees is seeking a dedicated individual to join their team as a Governance Leader. As a key member of the Board, you will play a vital role in ensuring the academic program's success, overseeing the school's operations, and maintaining a positive financial status.
The Board's primary objective is to connect the school with the wider community, provide expertise, confer credibility, and build long-term stability. You will be responsible for ensuring the school's compliance with state and federal laws, as well as adhering to Massachusetts regulations.
As a Governance Leader, you will attend monthly Board meetings, participate in Committee service, and engage in school activities and fundraising events. Your time commitment will be approximately 3-4 hours per month.
Responsibilities:
- Act as an active advocate and ambassador for the school's mission and vision, upholding its values.
- Attend and participate in Board meetings, preparing by reviewing materials and bringing them to the meetings.
- Contribute to the Board's conversations and effective operation, including supporting decisions and appraising the Board's performance.
- Support the school's policies and procedures, as well as the Board's ground rules for conducting business.
- Work with other Board members to ensure the Board functions well.
- Engage in outside meetings, including Committee meetings, renewal meetings, and graduation events.
- Assist with recruiting and welcoming new Board members.
- Help support the school's charitable contributions by identifying and cultivating relationships with donors, volunteers, and advocates.
- Be available to serve on a Committee or task force as a prepared and active participant.
- Inform the Board of Trustees of any potential conflicts of interest and abide by their decision.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries with the school and its administration, staff, teachers, and students.
- Fulfill fiduciary duties and ensure legal and ethical integrity, maintaining accountability and confidentiality.
