Position Overview
The Project Engineer plays a vital role in supporting the project manager with the planning and execution of construction activities. This position involves preparing change orders, engaging in negotiations, and overseeing project administration. The Project Engineer is responsible for managing job controls to ensure adherence to contracts, budgets, schedules, job costing, forecasting, quantities, and billing processes. Effective communication of relevant information to appropriate stakeholders is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee cost reporting and financial projections.
  • Organize and monitor all change orders.
  • Collaborate with the project manager and team to review and update project schedules.
  • Understand and communicate the project's critical path to relevant parties.
  • Update equipment schedules with input from project managers and superintendents.
  • Maintain current project status and communicate field activities during reviews.
  • Facilitate cross-training among engineers and field staff to promote collaboration.
  • Maintain communication with owners, vendors, subcontractors, and project team members.
  • Draft and manage written correspondence with owners and vendors.
  • Coordinate the Request for Information (RFI) process and collaborate with field engineers/superintendents for final reviews.
  • Supervise the routing of drawings and manage transmittal approvals.
  • Keep accurate records regarding job progress, costs, and material usage.
  • Develop and mentor field engineering personnel.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in large heavy/highway construction projects (including Structures, Bridges, Underground, Earthwork, and Concrete Paving).
  • Experience with medium to large projects ($25M+) is essential.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team.
