Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Patrol Officer to join our team at Ithaca College. As a key member of our Public Safety department, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas of the campus to preserve law and order, prevent and deter crime, and respond to emergencies.
  • Investigate non-criminal calls, including student welfare checks, service requests, and medical assistance needs.
  • Respond to and investigate criminal calls, take individuals into custody, and process evidence.
  • Conduct investigations of campus incidents, prepare reports, and present testimony in court or at disciplinary hearings.
  • Serve as officer in charge in the absence of the sergeant and supervise shift personnel.
  • Regulate pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic, investigate traffic accidents, and enforce vehicle and parking regulations.
  • Provide emergency first aid response and participate in special events, such as sporting events and concerts.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with community members, off-campus law enforcement agencies, and other organizations.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of law enforcement and/or security experience.
  • A minimum of 21 years of age and successful completion of the New York State Basic Course for Police Officers and certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete the Ithaca College Office of Public Safety Field Training and Evaluation program.
  • Possession of or the ability to obtain a New York State Pistol Permit.
  • A valid New York State driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
Work Environment

The work of the Patrol Officer is carried out within an indoor and outdoor environment and may involve exposure to hazards and physical risks to personal safety. The incumbent will be required to remain on their feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, walk, and run. The incumbent must be able to restrain, lift, and/or carry adults of varying weights and must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
