Substitute Nurse

Job Summary:

The Laredo Independent School District is seeking a Substitute Registered Nurse to support student success by implementing a comprehensive program of health services for campus. The ideal candidate will provide direct health care to students, leadership for provision of health services, screening and referral for health conditions, promote health and a healthy school environment, and serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct health care to students, including administering medications and performing health screenings.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive program of health services for campus, including health education and promotion.
• Collaborate with school personnel, family, community, and health care providers to ensure students receive necessary health services.
• Conduct health screenings and refer students to health care providers as needed.
• Provide leadership for provision of health services, including developing and implementing health policies and programs.
• Serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community, and health care providers to ensure students receive necessary health services.

Requirements:

• Degree from an accredited professional nursing education program.
• Valid registered nurse (RN) license to practice professional nursing in Texas issued by State Board of Nurse Examiners.
• CPR Certification.
• One year experience as a registered nurse.
• Information technology skills necessary to perform essential job requirements.
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with administrators, teachers, and other staff.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Certified to conduct vision, hearing, acanthosis, and spinal screenings; certified as American Heart Association BLS Instructor.

Working Conditions:

This is a substitute position, working as needed basis.
