Role Summary: The Writing Instruction Program within the Department of English is looking for part-time adjunct instructors for the academic year. Instructors may be responsible for teaching first-year writing or reading courses, including co-requisite courses that provide additional support in reading or writing. These roles will report to the Director of the Writing Instruction Program.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teach between three and nine credit hours (1-3 courses) of college-level writing and/or reading each semester.
2. Offer academic support to students through designated office hours.
3. Ensure that assignments and curriculum align with the program's and university's learning outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in English or a closely related discipline (with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English).
- Demonstrated experience in teaching composition and reading, particularly to first-year students.
- Preferred experience includes teaching co-requisite writing courses and/or working with non-native speakers, along with a commitment to intercultural competence and inclusive excellence.
Compensation: The remuneration for a three-credit course varies slightly based on experience and educational background, projected to be between $2700 and $3000 per course. This position is particularly suitable for candidates seeking permanent opportunities elsewhere. The department will provide mentoring, performance evaluations, and support for ongoing job searches.
