Job Overview

Position Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Role Objective:

The primary aim of this role is to deliver direct support to residents, under the guidance of a licensed nurse, adhering to facility protocols and procedures while communicating resident needs and concerns to nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with personal hygiene and daily activities, which may include managing bedpans and urinals, providing baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves, as well as aiding residents during showers. Support residents during meals and ensure proper hydration and nourishment throughout the day.
  • Monitor vital signs and weight, assist with specimen collection, and provide post-mortem care as required.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a care team and help orient new staff members. Foster positive working relationships with nursing unit personnel and other facility staff through effective communication.
  • Instill confidence in residents by maintaining a professional appearance and executing duties with competence and compassion. Relay observations regarding residents to the supervising nurse to facilitate professional assessments.
  • Document resident records daily in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized environment for residents.
  • Guarantee resident safety by strictly following protocols, policies, and procedures, maintaining open communication with residents, supervisors, and colleagues, and conducting careful observations of residents and their surroundings.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • With appropriate training and written consent, may undertake additional specialized tasks relevant to the assigned area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of therapeutic methods and procedures.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to observe and assess resident conditions.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and genuine concern for others.
  • Must be stress-resilient, self-motivated, cooperative, team-oriented, and reliable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

  • Stand, walk, ascend/descend stairs, move/transport heavy carts, and manipulate tools/equipment as necessary. Occasionally lift equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Assist residents as needed, stretch, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, kneel, and balance to access all areas of the resident's body, observe skin color, and detect vital signs and equipment alerts.
  • Operate a computer, read, and maintain a stationary position while conversing with others.
  • Complete forms legibly; perform data entry accurately. Remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Communicate effectively, write clearly, and comprehend written and verbal information.
  • Lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently; up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Stand and walk frequently, sit for extended periods; perform simple grasping and fine hand manipulation; possess near and far vision; hear conversations; and speak clearly.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED, or equivalent is required.

Experience: Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.

Certification/License: A valid Florida Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in good standing is required. Candidates must obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of hire. Compliance with state background check standards is necessary for continued employment.
